Straight Shooter
Got questions about transfers, NFA items, or gunsmithing? We’ve got straight-shooting answers.
An FFL (Federal Firearms License) transfer is the legal process of transferring a firearm from one party to another through a licensed dealer. At JWTE, all transfers are logged in Orchid eBound for ATF compliance and require a background check through FDLE.
Our standard fee is $45 for incoming/online transfers, plus the $5 FDLE background check fee required by Florida law.
You must bring a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID with your current address (driver’s license, state ID, or military ID with PCS orders). For NFA items, additional ATF-required documentation will also be needed.
Florida law requires a $5 FDLE background check fee for every firearm purchase or transfer. We submit your information electronically to FDLE, and approval times vary.
Yes. Florida Statutes (790.0655) impose a minimum 3-day waiting period (excluding weekends and holidays) for all retail handgun sales unless exempt. Some counties extend this to all firearms (e.g., Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach require 5 days). CWFL holders are exempt. Law enforcement and certain military exemptions also apply.
When purchasing a firearm online, you may select JWTE as your receiving FFL, or have the seller request a copy of our license.
To speed up the process, after placing your order you can send us the following details:
- Your full name (as it appears on the order)
- Your order number
- The vendor/dealer name
- The email address where our FFL license should be sent
Please text or call us at 407-279-2989 or email info@notary.how with this information. We will then provide our FFL license directly to the seller on your behalf.
Once your firearm arrives, we’ll notify you so you can complete the FDLE background check and pick up your firearm.
Yes. While Florida law does not require private party sales to go through an FFL, many customers choose this option for safety and compliance. At JWTE, we can facilitate private transfers by conducting the FDLE background check and recording the transaction in our ATF acquisition and disposition log.
NFA (National Firearms Act) items include suppressors, short-barreled rifles (SBRs), short-barreled shotguns, and machine guns. These items require ATF approval and tax stamps before transfer.
Our fee for NFA transfers (Form 4 – Individual/Trust) is $150, which includes compliance guidance through the ATF process.
Yes. We assist customers with Form 4473, FDLE background checks, and ATF Forms 3 & 4. While we cannot provide legal advice or act as your representative, we ensure forms are properly completed and submitted in accordance with ATF requirements.

Firearms must be picked up within 7 days of arrival to avoid storage fees. Beginning on Day 8, a $10 per day storage fee will apply. If a firearm is not picked up or arrangements made by Day 14, it will be considered abandoned and a final notice will be issued. After 21 days, the firearm may be returned to the sender or added to JWTE inventory in accordance with ATF and Florida law. Please review our Terms & Conditions for full details.
